How to Use AI Throughout Your Entire UI/UX Design Process (Without Letting It Design for You)
1. Quickly find gaps in the requirements and research stages
AI is useful before design begins for organizing scattered information and surfacing questions that need further confirmation.
- It summarizes the project brief and identifies missing features or user roles to clarify requirements.
- It reduces initial exploration time by researching onboarding patterns and recurring UX issues in competitor products.
- Use the research results as a starting point, and the designer should verify whether they fit the actual users and product context.
2. Expand the possibilities for user flows and wireframes
When AI quickly opens up multiple options, the designer can focus more on judging structure and priorities.
- It organizes screen flows to include not only normal flows but also exception situations such as errors, empty states, and differences in permissions.
- It brainstorms a variety of layouts and information architectures that solve the same goal.
- Rather than using generated wireframes as the answer, select and refine them to match user goals and business priorities.
3. From UX copy to handoff and design review
After screens are created, AI can also assist with repetitive writing and checking tasks.
- It drafts button labels, guidance text, and error messages, and compares expressions suited to the situation.
- It checks basic accessibility issues in advance, such as readability, color contrast, and clarity of wording.
- It documents interactions and state changes by screen, and reviews missed issues based on Nielsen's usability heuristics.
4. Even if AI becomes faster, final judgment is the designer's responsibility
The value of AI is not in replacing design, but in reducing repetitive work and giving back time for important problems.
- It speeds up simple, repetitive tasks such as summarizing, drafting, and expanding alternatives.
- It does not deeply understand user context, business priorities, or the emotions that a brand needs to convey.
- The responsibility for verifying usability and consistency and deciding the final direction remains with the designer.
