Ship it, don’t just show it
1. The validation power of a well-organized process has weakened
It has become harder to distinguish thinking ability from a polished case study alone, from sketches to logic.
- In the past, a process organized from sketches, wireframes, and Figma annotations was strong evidence of a designer’s thinking ability
- Now AI can quickly construct plausible processes, feedback, and rationale, so the completeness of a document does not guarantee real experience
- The portfolio question is also shifting from “How well was it explained?” to “What was actually finished?”
2. Real products do not move according to a neat narrative
The friction and compromises that case studies removed remain in the launch process.
- Under unexpected constraints such as network errors, missing data, and business deadlines, priorities must be redefined
- The tradeoffs that explain what was given up and what was preserved reveal real judgment
- Questions that ask about the reasons for decisions and the constraint conditions become the basis for separating narratives dressed up by AI from real experience
3. The new evidence is results that actually work
Execution traces that can be used and tracked create stronger trust than static screens.
- A public URL and a Vercel deployment become proof that an idea was connected all the way to a working product
- GitHub commits show trial and error and the revision process in chronological order
- Handling exceptional cases and reflecting real user feedback are difficult to replace with a polished mockup alone
4. A portfolio should leave both results and judgment behind
What was learned and what changed in the process is as important as the fact that it was launched.
- Briefly and specifically connect the constraints, decisions, tradeoffs, and changes after launch alongside the deliverable
- Rather than increasing the number of flashy screens, clearly present the real usage context and scope of responsibility
- Show the ability to adjust a problem to fit reality and finish it to the end, rather than whether AI was used
