The Right It
1. The question this book addresses
How can we tell whether people actually want an idea?
- Core question
- Check whether an idea is worth executing before focusing on good execution
- Look at behavior shown through time, money, and effort rather than verbal enthusiasm
- Criteria for judgment
- Your own firsthand data, not just market research
- Observable demand signals, not intuition
2. What designers can take away
Design the behaviors you want to validate before polishing the prototype
- Before design work
- Check whether this is really a problem users want to solve
- Prioritize actions like clicks, sign-ups, and payment attempts over visual completeness
- From a research perspective
- Record the moment when users spend real money, not just when they say they like it
- Design experimental touchpoints that encourage behavior rather than questions alone
3. Experiments you can try right away
How to make an idea slightly wrong on purpose and learn quickly
- Writing hypotheses
- Include numbers and targets, like “At least X percent of Y will do Z”
- Define success and failure criteria before the experiment starts
- Pretotyping
- Validate demand with fake doors, waitlists, and sign-up forms
- Reduce the experiment to a size where failing within a few days is acceptable

《The Right It》 is a book that teaches how to verify real demand with behavioral data before building.
It’s a useful safety net when starting a new feature or side project. If it were me, I’d bring this book up when the team is deciding, before building the screens, what kind of user behavior would count as genuine interest.
- Good timing to read this
- When you need to validate a new service or feature idea
- When you’re unsure whether positive interview feedback reflects real demand
- When you want to set small-experiment criteria before a larger build
