The Storyteller's Secret
1. Key question this book addresses
Why do good ideas spread more powerfully in some stories?
- Core perspective
- People remember meaningful scenes more than raw amounts of information
- Features, numbers, and lists of benefits gain force inside a story
- Message structure
- Show why it matters and whose problem it changes
- Connect the change to what it looks like in real life
2. What designers should take away
Cast the user as the main character of the story, not the product
- Brand experience
- The product is not the hero; it is a supporting role that helps the user change
- Re-read sentences from “Our product...” to “The user...”
- UX writing
- Turn feature explanations into before-and-after scenes for the user
- Connect data to a felt experience, such as actual time saved, reduced anxiety, and greater confidence in making a choice
3. A way to apply it right away
Practice turning a feature list into a story of change
- Problem definition
- Give the user’s pain points specific names
- Write a short scene of a day before and after the solution
- Persuasion check
- Write down what one number changes in the user’s life
- Check whether the customer is the main character in the landing page and pitch deck
